Covered in class are teaching techniques that require approval and techniques that are never allowed by a paid professional. The student will not only learn about the rights of people with developmental disabilities but how to assist someone in expressing those rights. The class will also give the student tips on how to positively support someone when teaching a new skill. The student will learn about what a behavior plan is and why they are used. Ultimately, the learner will leave Article 9 class understanding that Article 9 in practice is about assisting another person in not only maintaining dignity but finding more of it.

Chris did a great job of presenting all of the necessary information required to understand Article 9. I appreciated his passion for the reason for Article 9 and the need to protect people who are at risk for abuse. I also appreciate his encouragement to do the right thing in advocating for those who cannot advocate for themselves and reporting abuse.

Chris was informative and easy to listen to, he made the class engaging (even a night class!) He also really helped us to understand some complex topics and the material. All of the information in this course is absolutely necessary in order to provide the best quality of care (the required quality of care) to individuals with disabilities. Chris, the instructor, was amazing! He went through everything and answered everyone's questions. If you need to take an Article 9 course, take it with Chris!
