Covered in class are teaching techniques that require approval and techniques that are never allowed by a paid professional. The student will not only learn about the rights of people with developmental disabilities but how to assist someone in expressing those rights. The class will also give the student tips on how to positively support someone when teaching a new skill. The student will learn about what a behavior plan is and why they are used. Ultimately, the learner will leave Article 9 class understanding that Article 9 in practice is about assisting another person in not only maintaining dignity but finding more of it.

The whole process was very simple and straight-forward, and the instructor, Heidi Lewis is very well experienced, knowledgeable, and very open to questions. If you take the class, listen, take notes, and engage, you will pass the quiz at the end.

I enjoy that the class is easy to access with plenty of days and times available. Biggest issue is that with the complexity and importance of this course a lot of time was taken to talk about personal experiences. Some of the slides are outdated and the color contrast can make it difficult to read.

Heidi did a great job going over the material and emphasizing the important topics and subtleties, as well as sharing her personal experiences to make it more interesting and easier to remember for the quiz and for on-the-job use. The only thing I would change is within the online system: while I did pass the course, I'd like to know which question I missed without having to bother Omnean personnel to clarify my misunderstanding.
