Covered in class are teaching techniques that require approval and techniques that are never allowed by a paid professional. The student will not only learn about the rights of people with developmental disabilities but how to assist someone in expressing those rights. The class will also give the student tips on how to positively support someone when teaching a new skill. The student will learn about what a behavior plan is and why they are used. Ultimately, the learner will leave Article 9 class understanding that Article 9 in practice is about assisting another person in not only maintaining dignity but finding more of it.

Chris did a great job teaching this course in relatable and digestible methods. The class was engaging, interesting, interactive and informative. He clearly helped direct us to the information we needed to know for the quiz and compliance in work/working with family/clients/patients but more than that, he inspired us to advocate for the dignity of people. He communicated techniques that are encouraged, need specific legal requirements and those that are prohibited. He also shared from historical and personal experiences of ways we have failed to protect/do what is best for people with disabilities and how we have grown. He encouraged us to continue to grow in skill and advocacy. I was required to take this course for work but I would encourage all people to take it and I would happily take it again.
