Covered in class are teaching techniques that require approval and techniques that are never allowed by a paid professional. The student will not only learn about the rights of people with developmental disabilities but how to assist someone in expressing those rights. The class will also give the student tips on how to positively support someone when teaching a new skill. The student will learn about what a behavior plan is and why they are used. Ultimately, the learner will leave Article 9 class understanding that Article 9 in practice is about assisting another person in not only maintaining dignity but finding more of it.

I always enjoy taking my Article 9 class from Chris Garcia. He presents this important information very clearly; drawing on his vast experience in the field to give real life examples that are relevant and easy to understand. He always incorporates the most up to date information to help those in the class understand how we all can continue to grow and improve our own skills and abilities to truly support the individuals we work with in the most compassionate and dignified way possible. I appreciate how he is very supportive and encouraging of those DSPs who are new to this field.

I loved the class, and I agreed with the opinions of the instructor. I wish, however, that he gave more scenarios of how the contents of Article 9 apply to the members and providers.
