Covered in class are teaching techniques that require approval and techniques that are never allowed by a paid professional. The student will not only learn about the rights of people with developmental disabilities but how to assist someone in expressing those rights. The class will also give the student tips on how to positively support someone when teaching a new skill. The student will learn about what a behavior plan is and why they are used. Ultimately, the learner will leave Article 9 class understanding that Article 9 in practice is about assisting another person in not only maintaining dignity but finding more of it.

Instructor was great and kept things interesting. My only complaint is with the test. Having a timed test causes unnecessary stress. And I'm unable to see what I answered incorrectly. How can I grow my skills if I don't know what I'm doing wrong? Overall, very useful information. Thank you.

Having ADHD, please allow more time on the test. I want to be able to see my test when I am done. What does this question mean?- The Direct support professionals know that whenever they scratch their nails on the kitchen wall Alma hates it so much she will immediately refocus and continue eating her dinner in order to make them stop. The direct support professional would be using what? WHO IS THEY, WHO IS ALMA, WHO IS THEM????
Chris was great. Testing verbiage was kind of weird.

Article 9 As a Parent of A Non-verbal Adult

Chris was great and a very good presenter. The class flew by. I am the parent of a non-verbal adult with Autism, who self injures. My son was in a group home a few years ago. Even though I have been providing services for over 10 years, a lot of the things they did in the group home were in violation of Article 9. This is the first time I had to re-certify after he left the group home, and I learned a lot. The previous times a lot of the info on behavior plans was not applicable. If you are working in a group home or providing services to someone else's child, pay attention the knowledge will help you.
