DCW Level 1 Fundamentals DCW Level 2 Developmental Disabilities Direct Support Professional
This Module is required within the Principles and Practices of Direct Support Curriculum.
$30.00

The Community Living Skills and Supports module is a practical series of lessons that show best practice techniques for supporting people. ADLs and IADLS are discussed and practical ways of promoting a person's independence are demonstrated.

DSPs are not maids or butlers, therefore they are not expected to clean and take care of someone's home maintenance. DSPs do however support people in cleaning and maintaining their own homes and included in this lesson are short tutorials of many tasks. Transferring someone in and out of bed, proper use of gait belts and wheelchairs are also demonstrated. This module is a must for anyone supporting people in trying to increase or maintain independence within their own home.

I watched this series and while the information is good and well-presented, it is riddled with errors in spelling and punctuation; even in the short quizzes.

While I appreciate the valuable information in this course, there were many errors in execution that made it difficult to progress through. There were multiple typos. There were a couple of instances of content repeated verbatim over two different sub topics. At times the person in the video would mention something that they had already told the viewers when indeed that content appeared later in the course and at that point it had never been mentioned before - indicating perhaps the order of the subtopics was changed without thought to those comments. Several times the question asked at the end of the sub topic video was never mentioned in the video so I was just taking my best guess and actually missed one question. I was then directed to view the video again where I could confirm that the answer to that question had not been stated in the video. (The question was asking if someone you just assisted to stand up should be asked if they felt dizzy. My initial thought was no, you would not want to suggest that because it might actually trigger dizziness they may not have had otherwise but this was wrong. The lady modeling the procedure did not mention anything about dizziness - just said the client had balance and stability issues.) The content of this course is varied and hugely important to the DSP job which makes it important to be sure it is presented in a way that is straightforward, properly executed, and easy to follow.
